I still maintain he's our 3rd best centre back

Can't remember him having a bad game or making any mistakes? Okay his foul lead to the free kick that caused the goal but it's up to the team to defend set pieces after that.

The decision to drop Mertesacker was wrong. I don't like this rotating centre backs nonsense.

Per should not have been dropped

Chelsea's counter attacks and fast, tricky players but It's amazing that he changed a defence that had only conceded 1 goal from open play, and that was a goalkeeping error.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Why? Kos got away with a botched clearance at City. Kos came up short on the first goal on Saturday.
What's the f**k has the Belgian done to you?

being official captain yet stuck on the bench, and Vidic vice captain but effectively the skipper as he was first choice defender, before it was all made official and Vidic replaced him as captain?

Not that you can't bench a skipper in any case, unusual but nothing to say you can't.

If Per played, we might have defended the set pieces better. But who's to say the many small nippy players Chelsea have wouldn't have caused him and us different problems instead?

against that type of player. I suppose our deeper defensive line makes this less of an issue than previously.

I can't get that incident last season against ManU at home out of my head when he was "sprinting" back in slow motion to clear Welbeck's shot off the line http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/smile.gif
