which is where Northwestern is located. Luke married a Chicago girl and they also, in addition to their Florida home, have a homein Northfield, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. he will have many of his US buddies out there on the course cheering for him.

He's the hometown boy. Sorry if this takes the wind out of your sails. Are you flying the Euro flag this weekend?

if they were booing him which I now realise they weren't but I think if they were, that would be an irrelevant point.

and yes, I will be cheering on the Europeans.

All the best for a good match played in a fair spirit.

And may Poulter, a gooner, sink the winning putt

We have this manufactured "war" as the Euros fly their made up flag and profess their hate for the US. When in fact:

Martin Kaymer lives in Scottsdale, AZ
Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Ian Poulter live in Orlando, Florida.

So along with Luuuuuuuke, that's half the team living in the land of "the enemy".

Some of this vitriole, in my humble opinion, comes from the simple fact that as an individual sport these golfers are used to playing for themselves only. Then when they are thrown into this "team" concept they go a bit overboard in trying to gin up some team spirit. The US squad has been more than guilty of this in the past. The esteemed Team Captain is either toasted or roasted when in fact he can't do much to influence the outcome. So they overcompensate by trying to provide Motivation. It can very quickly become misplaced by these guys who may not have ever played a team sport in their lives.

Then the golf commentators persist in ginning up this rivaly as something momentous, if for no other reason than to spur viewrship.

It's all a bit silly. Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson are my two fave golfers at the moment. Am I all of a sudden supposed to not like Rory?

I;m going to try not to get sucked in.
