I still think that a player's desire to score, in a very good goal scoring position, would out weigh the possibility of them going down, with the following exceptions

1) They do not think they are going to score.
2) There is a possibility that they can get an opponent sent off.

there are natural instincts at work. The striker who loves to score goals, will wnat to do just that. Even if he has doubts in his mind, he will still want to have that shot at goal. At some point, if his confidence is low enough, he may decide that he doesn't really fancy it, or will be extra deliberate in what he does to take the shot on.
