View Full Version : Ramsey and van Persie.

There was a piece about Mr van Persie in the FT back in June which suggests that not only did Robin dislike Aaron, but hints that he was frustrated with Wengers 'protection' of him. The tone of the quite long piece is very pro van-Persie and if we allow ourselves to believe that it does reflect his opinions perhaps it gives examples of where Robin was unhappy with the direction of the team (ie the manager).

Could his departure liberate Ramsey, taking the handbrake off and allowing him to get back to his best form? I think we'll see a much better Ramsey this season.

The tone positions itself as objective, but I believe these are the opinions of the player, not the journalist:

Quote:

Arsenal’s recent signings have not convinced. Andrey Arshavin was expensive, inefficient and unpopular in the dressing room, Marouane Chamakh a mistake, Gervinho inadequate for the Premier League. And manager Arsène Wenger’s protection of the young midfielder Aaron Ramsey, with his deficient view of the game and meagre statistics (only two goals and four assists all season), doesn’t help much either

Three midfield spots, 5 players ahead of him (Rosicky/Wilshere/Diaby/Arteta/Cazorla).

He'll probably start tonight though, and do very little.

Interesting to note the most recent of those recent signings was the best part of two years before and the eulogising of van der Vaart is quite frankly vomit-inducing. Strangely doesn't mention that in both his seasons in English football he disappeared after Christmas

back as fast as possible whilst the other team are on the break as he's way out of position.

including Arsenal players which he likes and those that he doesn't. Obviously he's not going to use direct quotes being negative about team-mates at a time when Robin had agreed with the club not to talk about his future, which had been almost certainly determined at that point.

When he eventually spoke out, he said he had differences about the way the club was going, which presumably included player ins and outs, and team selection. Apart from Arteta, the other two players he is reported as liking, Song and Walcott, were also not in agreement with the club about their futures.

is that if they pulled the proverbial out and got on with their jobs whilst at AFC they probably would have plenty of trinkets in their sock drawer.

especially when not quoting.

when I say writers opinion, I mean writers view of what RvP actually said.

Likewise we cannot be sure that what Robin said on his website was really what he thought. However, in my opinion there is a resonance between what Robin eventually apparently said and what he apparently said in this interview.

Considering that the source is neither a sensationalist newspaper nor an attention-seeking blog, and that the piece is somewhat sycophantic to van Persie, I see little motivation for making stuff up to cause mischief. In fact the article, tucked away in a Magazine in the Financial Times hasn't appeared on any radar.

However, it's always safest to flout one's cynical credentials at all times, so I fully understand your position. http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif

It was when the worm of Arsenal support had firmly turned against our former Dutch footballing god and when people had re-assessed their earlier assessments to joyfully decide he was an injury prone one season wonder.

Not sure which media outlet directed me to it what with me not being a FT reader but the clear insinuation was that the piece was very much ‘planted’ by van Persie and was his opening gambit of the summer, the journalist himself admitting to a long relationship with the player. It would be odd for a journalist to make up such specific claims regarding a player’s respect for team mates.

Although I do wonder whether the old boy will leave himself enough time after retirement to complete all the volumes he could fill. He said he could write a whole book about last summer's transfer window alone.

As I argued with a few on Saturday we had no choice in the end with van Persie, the business logic took seniority over the football on that.

Diarra came in and presumably was so disruptive behind the scenes as to be sold on in within 4 months. He must have been a right pain in the arse to deal with.
