Went abroad on a job, met someone new and just stayed. Got his colleagues and boss to lie to his g/f when she called and wondered when the hell he was coming home. After a while she realised he'd left her. He came home to get his gear, hid behind the corner of their place and watched her leave for work one morning, then snuck in and got his sh*t.
