and I know that contrary to popular belief not all players are entirely motivated by money

one will be 'the big one'. Vitally important to him and making him a top top earner. As a partnership with his agent, they have been working towards and planning this contract renewal for years. £75k per week, probably isn't where they expected it to be and it is probably hard for the agent to back down and say we've fcuked this up for you. So they keep on digging with hardball tactics.

hunting dogs are motivated by hunting, killing prey. They are not.

The reason they hunt well is because we feed them well, just as players play well because we pay them well, not because we don't.

and I'm being generous with that, would honestly say he's closer to £65k

But I suspect that when he transferred to Arsenal and joined an Agent/agency. They mapped out his career and earnings and promised him they would get x,y,z based on him fulfilling his potential. They are just stuck now as he clearly isn't worth the big money that his agent/agency promised him and they are trying to pull every stop out to try and get it.

to pay the extra £25k a week than let him go on a free.

£25k a week over 4 years is £5m. If he signs he's worth £20m. It seems ridicules to let him go on a free.

...He is however not worth much more and as everyone else seems to agree, is too inconsistent to command a first choice place. The issue is less players going for more money, but more importantly not being able to sign better players who do not want very high wages.

We face a very difficult time in the transfer market because on a financial level we simply cannot compete with the clubs who take our best players.

financial commitments already.

That's why they're welcome to our players, so long as they pay up.

which is insane, him signing or being sold are surely the only options

...I don't think we should be held to ransom by under performing players.

i'd be furious if we didnt cater for them and meet their demands, but not now/

ppl claim players want to leave us because we're not winning stuff, i see it the the other way around. i want to get rid of players who aren't winning us stuff.

If you actually want better players, you need to just sign them, I imagine.
