It’s normally lies to avoid doing things that are an inconvenience (family commitments, etc), but has recently extended to a situation that I found rather odd, since it seemed easier and less harmful to tell the truth than to tell a white lie.
Her work colleague brought her in a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey to borrow, which my girlf had no interest in reading. But instead of telling her this, she feigned gratitude with the intention of *pretending* to read it before giving it back to her.
The problem with this, of course, is that one harmless lie could now be compounded by a continuation of the lie whereby my girlfriend has to give her opinions on a book that she hasn’t read.
I found it very strange that she would choose this option, when she could quite have easily said “Oh thank you for the offer, but it really doesn’t appeal to me so if it’s all the same, I’ll give it a miss”.
I find it a little disconcerting how readily she seems willing to tell lies ((albeit largely harmless and well-intentioned ones), almost to the point of it being a teeny bit pathalogical http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/ohwell.gif
