View Full Version : Two questions about field hockey: 1) is there some kind of back-pass rule

meaning that the goalie isn't allowed to pick the ball up or even stop it dead? Are they only allowed one touch or sommat? All I have seen is goalies thwacking it away when, to my untutored eye, they could quite easily collect it up.

2) What is the rule about the ball touching a player's foot?

you're not allowed to pass back to the goalie

if the ball touches an opponents foot inside the area, a penalty corner is awarded

something like that anyway

I mean, that's the thing isnt it?

Stay glued to the telly in the hope that somebody you've never heard of wins something in a sport you dont even really know the name of and then you can post it on Facebook and Twitter attaching nothing but the most nauseatingly cliche'd commentary, the sort of stuff that would make Garth Crooks blanche.

That's it isnt it?

I assume it is, I mean I've only had it for a few hours.

I would say that I've enjoyed it so far with nothing more than a passing interest.

Oddly, the closest moment I got to feeling anything resembling emotionally moved is when England women's football team took the lead against Brazil at Wembley.

Perhaps not so odd as it's the one sport I truly understand and love.

Clichéd comments or not.
