Anybody know much about non-sky satelite tv?

They have just put up a communal dish that picks up Hotbird east. Will i be able to get any free football on that? I know that i will not get any PL but some foreign stuff would be good.

What type of box should i get? Don't want to spend much as i only will use it for the odd bit of sport.
