I guess you have to walk about 30 minutes from the tube to then arrive at the central place that is another 30 minutes from various venues. http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/hehe.gif

Next time put in a monorail for us, eh?

I saw your comments earlier about missing the old skool showdowns with the USSR. You are neck-and-neck with your new superpower rivals, though. Politics aside, surely it's just as fun a contest - perhaps more so in some ways.

As of yet we haven't really suffered a major defeat at their hands, like when the USSR stole the gold medal in basketball in '72. Nor have we whipped them in something they consider their own, like in the ice hockey in '80.

Then you had to battle the USSR 'surrogates' like the hairy armed East German women's swimmers.

What does China call their own? Table tennis? Well, our table tennis player looked more Chinese than theirs! Plus, who cares. Like the USSR they have loaded up their resources towards insignificant sports that give away a ****load of medals, but I can't get too worked up about it.

swimming - with 9 of its 34 medals.

Just checking the same for the USA. They have 23 out of 37 in swimming. Looks like swimming is a good sport to focus on. For us, cycling and rowing have proved fruitful soil in recent times.

Other than that, the spread of sports between USA and China doesn't look that different, really, so far.

and shooting medals, etc. The stuff you rarely see on the telly. Those are the events where we have just local folks, like a nure, firemen, etc., working out on their own dime, no real national programs for things like that here like in China.

Looking at the breakdown in the links I posted, you've got a lot more swimming, and they make up the difference in table tennis and weight lifting. Apart from that, the spread is quite similar.
