Cardiff is "quite" nice for the area (South Wales). Down the regenerated bay area for example, pleasant. Some decent pubs in the city also.

If you want squalid then head out s of Thornhill in the direction of Caerphilly. Going over that mountain is like going back in time.

There are some decent pubs. I even tried a Welsh Stout which was better than I expected.

THe city is ok...like most these days- shops, coffee shops and hundreds of homeless people...

Reverend James (Brains) is nice if you see a pub with it.

I expect you are more a Heineken type mind you.

Not really, I only drink Guinness these days. Lager just tastes like muck to me now.

It was a Brains stout I had.

"Stays rank to the bottom of the glass" was always going to be hard to get past the PR people.

Whatever about the Heinekens of this world I think we can all agree we have moved on from darker years.

Walking into the pub in Turnpike Lane and being offered the choice of Skol, Castlemaine XXXX and Lowenbrau was never the forerunner for a great night out. Thankfully there was cheap, nasty amphetamines to be taken.

    Take Courage, imo.
"Plenty of strikers can score goals," he said, gesturing to the famous old stands casting shadows around us.

"But a lot have found it difficult wearing the number 9 shirt for The Arsenal."
