I don't know what's so wrong with 'it'. English already has a non gender-specific pronoun and it's 'it'. If you choose to pretend you're neither of the actual genders, you should be perfectly happy with 'it', I'd have thought.

Talking of this sort of thing, I happened to turn on BBC4 the other day to see that they were doing an all-female version of 'Julius Caesar'.

As a direct consequence of its casting, it looked terrible, it sounded terrible and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I'm sure the theatre crowd lapped it up.
