props to Sir C for its recommendation.
Happened to see the David Lean film in HMV for a couple of quid so, also on the recommendation of Sir C, bought it..... oh dear! Best I can say is it was of its time.
- Young Pip, having been raised by Kentish marsh peasants, speaking like a little posh twát.
- Estella not nearly beautiful enough as child or woman.
- All accents Van Dykish in their ineptitude.
- John Mills playing a 19 year old Pip, looking 42.
- Every scene saturated with a ghastly, whimsical sound track.
