Do you not drive it very often, and when you do does it tend to be for short distances?

Chances are you've got mould growing in the heater ducts. Your car is officially an environmental hazard

You could try leaving it running with the heater on full for a couple of hours to burn it out. Otherwise it will have to go into the dealer for treatment

it's been loads of short trips to be honest shopping and back and forth to the train station. I think I need to give the car a good drive,
The only other thing that might be it is a coolant leak, but can't really see it going down.

In the summer one day my collant had gone right down and had steam coming out the engine but I've kept an eye on it ever since and it's been ok.

My son did the same thing. Told him to leave the selection process to me so I could source a Nissan Micra or some such and the young fool had his eye turned by a Fiat (think it was the pretty pastel colour that won him). Had to dump it within 6 months
