Meanwhile, another bit of France's patrimony went up in flames last night. Rotten luck they seem to be having.

Un weekend in rural France reminded me of the old saw, "D'ici on ne peut pas vu Paris." 600 miles from the capital no one gives a stuff about gilets jaunes, Islamics, Macron or even Brexit. Life is good, the sun is warm and the wine chilled. Encore un tranche de foie gras, mes braves!

You say that, but of course large sections of La France Profonde are where the FN gets a lot of its votes.

Not the sort of people I mix with.

I looked up some of the houseguests. One is the directrice of Frof radio. Her wife teaches at the Sorbonne. One chap was introduced to me as 'un poete, sculpteur, bijoutier'. One chap claimed to be on the run from les flics for crimes financiere. A rum bunch indeed.

No offence, but they sound dreadful.

While that is true, it's never been different. They were Nazis back in the day. In the 1950s I mean. Don't believe me? See the film by Jean Rouch about the provinces, wherein, it is revealed, by means of Rouch's Cinema Verite style, that these provincial Frenchies were still very high on Vichy, liked Hitler, wished the 3rd Reich had ended differently, and would have loved to see a few Jews being toasted over an open fire.

So, you see, these are your preferred people. Not exactly models of virtue, unless you are of that particular mental stripe.

Ugh. Lesbians are bad enough, but crying albino lesbians are too much to stomach.

What with this and the transgender/radical feminist square-off, it is hard not to chuckle as the inherent contradictions in the left's position start to bite it on the arse.

I'm enjoying their efforts to pretend to be getting all tough on the bigotry behind the protests, while insisting that it is bigotry that only exists on the radical fringes, despite everything we have learned through polling suggesting otherwise.
