I see the left's throwing up its hands in horror at the idea of a coup in Venezuela

They're all wibbling on about 'Resisting US imperialism' and similar shíte.

The irony being, of course, that were such a coup to succeed in ousting the appalling murderous dictator Maduro, they'd all breathe a huge sigh of relief at no longer being embarrassed by socialism's catastrophic and inevitable failure there (and their erstwhile support for it) and could go back to blaming everything bad that ever happens on America.

Wait, I thought that Maduro's Venezuela wasn't an example of real socialism?

You still on for tomorrow? What time suits?

He's not a murderous dictator, he was elected, more than once, in elections which have been described by numerous international agencies (and a former POTUS) as as free and fair as any anywhere. The have been policy failings, particularly with the reliance on oil (which is not a socialist thing in particular) but as always, sanctions have contributed to economic woes, and encourage corruption.

What surprises me is that you found some lefties opposing imperialism. Most of them abandoned it decades ago imo.

And everything bad that ever happens anywhere IS the fault of Washington, so ner.

An opposition-led national assembly was elected in 2015, since when he has clung to power via pro-Maduro institutions including the judiciary and the military and now rules by decree. Sounds pretty dictatory to me. After all, you could have argued in 1939 that Hitler had been elected in 1933. Was he not a dictator, then?

Also, you fail to counter the suggestion that he is murderous.

And the 'policy failings' you refer to are called socialism. Huge energy revenues were turned into handouts to win support rather than being reinvested into creating a working capitalist infrastructure that could create wealth rather than just consume it.

And until August 2017 (ie long after the crisis began and the food started running out), there were no economic sanctions against Venezuela at all so you don't get to blame that.

So you're going to register your objection to being characterised as the sort of chap who spends his life with his arm up a shítpipe handling jobbies by coming and putting your arm up our shítpipes and handling our jobbies?

You're a curious fellow, h and no mistake.
