It’s quite amusing that the default for feminists and liberals when showing solidarity with Muslims is to don the hijab, something that highlights the oppressive nature of the religion and something many Muslim women want to rid themselves of.

Yes, but it's just one aspect of the wider cognitive dissonance of thinking that supporting, defending and promoting probably the most conservative, regressive and illiberal major religion on earth is somehow a 'progressive' act.

That's because, for them, literally any oppression is far better than, and preferable to, Western, male-style oppression. Islamic, socialist; you name it.

And we can't really say they don't have a point; the loudest voices either have never been troubled by either of those things or they are not being bothered by them anymore.

Doesn't make up for it, I'm afraid. I doubt anything ever can or will. It's probably been that way since the beginning of time. Maybe it's how we keep moving forward.

It's like if your wife one day told you life was perfect; that would be the time to start worrying, wouldn't it, because it's actually the constant complaining about everything that signals that things are perfect.

I believe it's more that we stopped even pretending to try, allowing them to try to amuse themselves. So to speak.

Simply asking for it. You've got to at least make an effort.
