Merely hinting at the political intention is enough really, so far as the government is concerned.
If anyone asks, they may try to point to any previous run-ins with the authorities, membership and/or association with various groups, that sort of thing. Photos from back home with a couple of chums looking sad and sort of gay would likely be enough too.
