On the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo murders, a chap tries to enter a Paris copshop clad in a

fake suicide vest, clutching a knife and shouting 'Allahu Akbar'.

Les flics promptly shoot him dead.

I think we can safely file that under 'suicide by cop', tbh.

Sounds to me like a classic case of

    All together now:

    "Nothing to do with Islam!"

Nod I was watching a TV programme showing all the footage of the Charlie Hebdo attacks last night

and, as the two terrorists fired their AKs and shouted 'Allahu Akbar' several times and then went on to explicitly ascribe their actions to their religion, the words 'Nothing to do with Islam' kept playing on a loop in my head for some reason.

Do people actually believe the 'nothing to do with Islam' line? I was under the impression that it

was something more moderate muslims said to try and stop the finger of blame pointing towards their religion.

Of course it's to do with Islam, ffs.

To be fair, I’ve never actually heard that line used by anyone other than a politician, and I think

there’s probably a reasonable argument for politicians using such black and white language, even if not strictly true.

And I speak as someone who believes that everyone who practices any religion - however peacefully - has blood on their hands.

Yeah, but in a world where many of our elected representatives govern with

less of an electoral mandate than is afforded by Jorge's mate's Lemmy petition, almost anyone is a "politician", and no less legitimate for it.

A chap's entitled to free speech, isn't he Frown

Indeed. It would have been interesting to find out exactly what point he was trying to make.

Possibly, it was just a rather ill-conceived practical joke.

Remember when that spurs fan ran onto the pitch at White Hart Lane dressed as Osama Bin laden

    during a north London derby?

He was wearing red and white robes as a way of mocking Arsenal over reports that Bin Laden was a Gooner. Unfortunately, when he ran back into the crowd, the Spurs fans took his colours to mean he must be an Arsenal fan himself and proceeded to kick the **** out of him.

That the pen is mightier than the sword right up until the moment they cut your head off. I think.

That's why we're all anti-gun; we'd like to reserve the right to banter each other off as we please without fear of serious reaper cushions, like being shot.

The social class aspect of the issue is oft-ignored, imo.
