Thread: Hmmm I seem to be back in the pub, let myself down. What a bum

Yes, servile, forelock tugging deferential eunuch.

  2. #22

Same here. Friend of mine ticked the wrong box and had to prove she

actually wasn't a Catholic - ended up being excommunicated by the Pope

I bet our RoI from the Royal Family is higher than it is from Visit Britain

when it comes to boosting the UK's image, attracting tourists here

I think Visit Britain get about 50m to spend, compared to the paltry 35m HRH has to get by on

This doesn't factor in the cost of security though, does it?

  5. #25

I am also not convinced that the tourism depends on an active, sitting monarch

All foreign tourists i see and hear are enthused by the buildings and the history. Those would remain.

People abroad always seem to take an active interest in our Royal Family

Here in Norway for example, they screened the wedding live all day, the baby was front page news, same as in Sweden.

It's much more of a pull for tourist to visit where the queen lives, rather than an old castle that hasn't been used for 100 years

Same reason that people visit DC - they want to see where the prez lives

If anything the heads-on-spikes would probably see an upturn

  8. #28

You chaps are mad for stringing people up, aren't you?

I pray for the day you traitors gain a spine between you and turn your big words to action.

Given that the armed forces swear the oath of allegiance to the crown, it would be fun seeing you put in your place. Actually, bits of you put in lots of different places, really.

It might've been tongue in cheek, C

That said, the Romanian army swore allegiance to Ceausescu but they opened the gates and bosh, the army lads filled their boots.

Which is presumably why buckingham palace doesnt even feature in the top ten tourist attractions in

    London.

The top attractions are museums and the tower of london. Suggests a certain historical pull doesnt it?
