I find myself wondering how many of those c*nting off Emery were also critical of Wenger in the 99-01 years and you will recall that there was no shortage of it about back then. In particular, I wonder if those who accuse him abandoning the traditions of the club were completely happy when Wenger fielded a first 11 which consisted entirely of non-British players. If not selecting Ozil and Ramsey and insisting on positional discipline is abandoning our club’s traditions, what was that?
In short, you’re wrong, they completely and utterly deserve cancer.
That depends which Ozil we would have had. The visionary genius, or the indifferent stroppy won who doesn't like a bit of intensity?
I do find it puzzling that Emery didn't even have him on the bench but at this point he deserves the benefit of the doubt. He's trying to implement a new way of playing and it's hard to believe that Ozil wouldn't be in the team if he was embracing change.
He probably should’ve been on the bench but I wouldn’t say it was crying out for him. The trouble with Özil is yes he has the ability to create something out of nothing but for the last 18-24 months he has been a passenger in too many games. Do you play him because today might be the day he’s on form, knowing full well that It might be one of those games where he shrugs his shoulders through most of it? Özil was great for us in his first three years but our fans talk about him like you’re leaving Bergkamp out of the team.
For me the biggest problem is playing 3 at the back. All we have going forward is overlaps from the wing backs. Our midfielders aren’t going to give any creativity through the middle. He needs to go back to four at the back and either play Iwobi as a 10 or put Ramsey in there.
We need to trim the squad by selling or letting go average players on large salary (hard to sell them I know), decide once nad for all if Ozil is in or not, if not, ship him out and save £17m a yr on wages, have a smaller squad but of a better quality ... hate to say this bit, a bit like Spurs ahve done
I think we looked better when Ramsey came on not because he was excellent but because he is a player whose primary focus is to attack and support the front two, he was still guilty on more than one occasion of peak Ramsey where he lost the ball when he should not.
Problems all through that team on Saturday with the exception of Leno. Mustafi really is a fúcking eejit and must be consigned to the big bin of shít****s, the midfield was dire and poor wee Guendozi is now sinking lower each week as simply he is being over played and over exposed, the transition from Ligue2 should really be a gradual one and not one where he is expected to excel week on week.
If a player like Elneny cannot play a role then get rid of him and bring in a resource the manager trusts. If Ozil is so far out of the managers plans, and with respect to the financial drain on the club, then again get rid and reinvest his money in a more prudent and efficient way.
The powers that be appear to be almost hanging Emery out to dry a little and it is not cool. Perhaps not helping himself either to a degree, Next 4 games include Chelsea, United and City so there is a very decent chance we could lose all 3 at which point the retards will be out in force criticising the man.
Shocking.
I'm looking forward to seeing how our favourite Welsher does at Juve. The slower pace of the game in Serie A will suit him, packed defences and a risk averse culture where giving the ball away in midfield is a punishable by death, will not.
I'll be very surprised if he's consistently in the first 11 there by Jan next year.
Unai should win the Europa League and then hand in his notice and release a statement about how messed up everything is.
Awesome coach pour moi but feel out fans deserve a few seasons of Fat Sam / Moyes as punishment.
Quite embarrassing when he have to repeatedly sub Ox on 70 minutes to save an extra £10k or not being able to get Callum or Reece back from loan because of the loan break fees they would have to pay Fulham and Hoffenheim.
It seems they are trying to change but going about it the wrong way.
On the one hand the issue of players running down their contracts and holding us to ransom but they’re publicly f ucking over Ramsey to do it while at the same time Ozil sits around playing Fortnight.
I do like they’ve stopped announcing how much they’ve got to spend. Always annoyed me. If you got money to spend then why tell the world? We just got repeatedly r aped in the transfer market for it.
But they’ve gone full circle and announced that we’re skint when it was last thing fans wanted to here.
It might be a tactic to get Suarez and Calypso on the cheap but hardly good PR.
Yes, glad you've finally come around.
It's great that we now have a new manager with new ideas and it's interesting seeing how they do or don't work out. It makes Arsenal worth following. Watching us fail year after year for the same reasons was just too dull to bother with.
I agree, we have a manager who can now ship out the players he doesn't want, gets in new players that fit his style, and not suck it up to the so called world class players no matter how crap they play... wd imo
It will take time, and since we stuck by AW for the last 2-3 seasons when it was obvious it was going wrong, it is failr obvious we should give him a couple of seasons to get the changes we need done
He needs time (and transfer windows). All of the players you mention (Ozil, Mustafi, Ramsey, Elneny) will be sold or released at the end of their contracts. This is not Emery's fault - he didn't sign them and it's clear that he does not feel they can contribute as well as others in this setup.
We'll have more money to play with in the summer due to the Addidas deal and I would expect us to sign a winger, a central midfielder and at least two defenders. We just have to make the best of this season - if we can finish in the top 5 or 6 then that would be mission accomplished.
It's funny because up until recently I could have sworn your reasons for thinking everything was sooooooo much better under Emery extended a leeeetle beeeet beyond "We may still be ****, but we're not quite as certain that we're always going to be quite so sh*t as we were under Wenger"
I read that it's to do with FFP and the wage bill. Loan transfers do not count against your permanent staff wage bill and FFP states that the wage bill cannot go up by more than x% per season. The Ozil deal (amongst others) means that we are very close to the x% threshold and face a fine if we do buy permanently in this window.
If we swap Ramsey for Benatia that will work as Benatia will offset Ramsey's wages.
Wage bill restrictions innit? I'm pretty sure the issue isn't a lack of cash for transfer fees. Our wage bill can only go up by a certain amount each year if you're using TV money to finance it and then you have to use additional revenue earned from commercial deals and transfer profits. Problem is our commercial revenue doesn't increase by a substantial amount unless the main deals get renewed and we haven't been making any transfer profits.
Yes. One heroic come back, one hammering and one deying the Chavs the double. Get in.
And some sexy goals to boot.
My only regret during the final AW years was losing the Uefa semi when 1-0 up against ten men at home due to shît defending.
But saying that feels as churlish as blaming Spunky for Nayim '95.
10 years of AFTV types moaning they wanted a real trophy, not 4th place. AW gives them 3 in 5 and they moan that they'd rather we were in the CL.
Dago out. AW, Ozil, Rambo in. And Santi back while we're at it. Even a half-fit Santi is better than any MF that this cûnt starts. And my missus is a better centre half than any of the fückers he's starting every week.
Didn't see the game but he's enormously talented. One of the Times writers had him as newcomer of the year in one of those mid-season analysis thingys.
Our biggest problem is not having the players Unai needs for the way he wants to play, injuries as well. It will take him a few windows to get the squad he wants. Then we can judge properly.
