M'learned friend below rejects the Dry Martini; very well.
What are your favourite pre-prandial tipples?
Limiting the list to 5 is the difficulty:
1. The Vieux Carre.
2. The Negroni.
3. The Dry Martini.
4. The Classic Champagne Cocktail.
5. The Aviation.
Honourable mentions to the Vieux Carre's siblings, the Sazerac and the Old Fashioned.
As you can see, this is a most pleasing list. Which are your favourties?
I prefer the post dinner drinks.
Of course my house is full of limoncello and grappa.
I like to pronounce Grappa in a cockney way. :-( I'm Jack the Grappa :-( It entertains myself.
I had some other drink the other day which was home made can't remember the name. It was red and tasted like medicine.
I have forsworn the vieux care after what it did to me last time.
I wonder sometimes if the Negroni isn't a touch overrated (controversial, I know),
For me, it's (in no order):
Caipirinha
Aviation
Champagne cocktail
Margarita (tarty, I know, but I like it)
Vieux Carre
Old Fashioned, Manhattan and Highball
And yes, all of my cocktails are from 40s american literature
So do I, to be honest. So long as it's beer.
Limoncello really is filth, isn't it? I always get sucked into it, though
Grappa, when good, is a fine beast. When bad, it's appalling.
Was it some Sloe Gin, per chance? I've got a bottle stashed away somewhere at home.

Possibly a decent G&T thrown in for good measure
Limoncello is the 4am party drink.
When all beer is gone, the early house on the Quays does not yet open for 2 hours and the host Mario thinks he has hit on a plan to see us through the hellish interval.
I went through a phase in my 20s of drinking pints of same.

35ml measure tops, got to be a balance betwixt spirit and mixer imo
Lots of ice, squeezed wedge of lime. And most importantly, not f**king GOrdon's tonic
so much is made clearer by that admission
I will choose to ignore that.
But I will not forget it.
Campari and Soda of course
The whole 'giving up your manhood' thing isn't mandatory yet, w.
me too. the problem with g&ts is they're so goddamn delicious. but then suddenly you're blind drunk.
and I do mean blind. like you can't freakin see.

I've now changed from lager to my winter ales
i love a good gin martini with couple o drips of olive juice
Otherwise id say a vodka , champagne n red bull kicks off an eve , as does brandy, chombourd n champagne
vodka, redbull spakling rose and buckfast can be good too
Especially if ones had a bit too much smack for lunch
