Wouldn't have happened in the old days. Midfield formations were practically set in stone: You had one chap who could shoot, the "Attacking midfielder." Another who could tackle who was called the Defensive Midfielder. Added to one headless chicken-type with a good engine who played box-to-box, there was always the fourth who had failed to master any of these roles so was named "Captain".
